AGAVE TEQUILANA |
PROJECT 91. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
The techniques that I tried was creating value with oils paints, and I felt that I mastered this as I used many different methods of blending oil paint together and creating different layers that blend in with each other. 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? I was inspired by Diego Rivera and also Monet as both of these artist have nature within their pieces and use nature to show beauty. I wanted to create something similar and show something that is close to the place where my culture is from. 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. When creating this piece, I had originally wanted to do a painting of calla lilies because my favorite painting was Diego Rivera's Nude with Calla Lilies, and I want to have the Calla lilies be part of the painting, although I altered changed the Idea of having the calla lilies to it being an Agave Tequilana because I thought the plant was fascinating and looked more into the plant and saw an article stating that the Agave Tequilana was a economical factor in Mexico's economy and I wanted to portray the importance of the Agave Tequilana. When initially painting the Agave I was constantly confused as the Agave were straight lines as they would often go into each other and I could not tell what part went to what and I had to trust myself. When painting the ground I tried to layer by wet on wet although it seemed like it didn't blend In the way that I wanted it too. In choosing the background I was advised to have it look like one of Frida Kahlo's paintings although I was not able to get it as when I layered the the blue back ground would get darker. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? I would change the background of the piece and have it be lighter as there are many dark colors with in. the painting and I would do this ignorer to have contrast in the piece and have the agave be emphasized. 5.Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread? This piece links with my other pieces as it shows something that is close to my culture and shows the importance of the plant as it is an economic symbol. |
