PROJECT 61. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
The techniques that I tried, was drawing with prismacolor pencils as I feel that I am not the best with them when it comes to adding value to the piece . It was difficult to match the value of the hat to the clothes because for some reason they were matching to the value of the hat. I feel as the I mastered the value in the hat and the value in the skeleton's head 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? I was inspired by art that was created surrounding the day of the dead and also I was inspired from a picture that I found on the internet because it embedded hispanic aspects that are important to the culture. I gain historical perspective of the traditions in the day and the dead and the important of different symbols. 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. When creating this piece it was hard to find and image where it shows different aspect of the hispanic culture, as many of the images I found were pictures of day of the dead inspired make up. I then found this image and decided to replicate it with differences in color. the skeleton man is in the center of the piece with his head in the upper thirds which follows rules regarding the composition. I stared to work on the head and hat first as that will give me indication in where the rest of the piece was going to be. I then began working on the body of the skeleton and this was my second time making a body In my piece and Im not the most experience in body proportions but I began to incorporate them because I want to improve on that skill. I then worked on the guitar in which I struggled creating the strings and the neck of the guitar. I chose to make the guitar read as it is opposite from the color of the skeleton's cloths so the guitar stands out. I add in the flower in which I struggled to make them a similar size to each other. Finally when choosing the background to the piece, I struggled in finding the perfect color in which it makes the skeleton stand out but also not over power the guitar. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? I would not have added white around me because mixed with the white of my shirt it looked like my head was floating. Save my effort in being careful of not erasing my self portrait would be nice. 5.Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread? this piece does not really connect with my common thread this year, as I have chose to change my common thread to culture, specifically focusing on chicano culture. |
