SELF PORTRAIT |
PROJECT 11. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
The techniques that I tried, was drawing with charcoal and chalk pastels, I feel like I mastered how to draw with willow charcoal as, with willow charcoal it was easy to cover up a mistake and was erasable. On the other hand, when tried to use the charcoal, i was scared and tried not make a mistake and i tried not to make my face too dark, and I didn't want the charcoal to overpower the chalk pastel. 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? I didn't really drive from inspiration from other artist as I did a self-portrait and wanted it to be something that really shows who I am and shows my personality and not anybody else's personality. 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. I had drawn a rough drawing , I was not happy with the way my face structure came out , everything looked so off and it didn't look like me. I've decided on using brown paper, because i wanted paper that will make the colors pop and also to make my drawing more realistic as the brown paper really makes the highlight pop. Once I started, I used a grid and make my grid off, so then once I noticed that my drawing was off so I free styled and began to make little improvements each time. when it got time to do my hair, I struggled and didn't know where to begin as I cant really draw hair, so I became stuck and didn't know what to do, then Mrs.O' Ryan gave me and idea, I had original wanted yellow flowers as my background, but i wanted to incorporate the flowers as my hair, and I wanted my hair to be yellow flowers as i incorporate yellow as happy colors. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? . I would add more leafs and add tons more of yellow flowers and also change the background and add clouds and also go over my drawing and fix the value in areas that smudged 5.Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread? Since this is my first piece i wanted to begin my common thread, the common thread that I wanted to begin was personality, as you can see first piece,I tried to represent my personality and some features of me that make me, ME! |
